University of Chicago Track Club Summer Meets

The meet was canceled due to the weather at 6:15 p.m..

Chicago was under a severe thunderstorm watch and the south
suburbs were under a tornado watch.

Severe thunderstorms had moved through the area in late afternoon with
heavy rain.  The heavy rain changed to light rain about 5:30pm.  But the
heavy rain left standing water on parts of the track.

Lightning was observed repeatedly south and east of the stadium.  

About 12 participants showed up before 6 pm and most were 
interested in having a meet.   The UCTC meet officials first delayed 
the start of the meet hoping the weather would change.

But at 6:15 pm. they reluctantly decided to cancel the meet due to 
concerns about safety.
