UCTC Masters & Sub-Masters Results for Summmer 2007 Meets
Here are the results for all masters and sub-masters athletes this
summer. Recently, the governing bodies made the age divisions the
same for men and women: masters are 35 and over, ages 30-34 are
sub-masters.
After the name and age are three columns: the actual performance, the
age-graded performance, and the rank in percent. (To use the WAVA
tables, I had to add 0.24 sec to the times for to "convert" to FAT.)
The latter two entries are based on tables produced by National Master
News which attempted statistically to figure out how much track and
field performance in each event declined with age, and then to figure
out a set of factors from which one can predict how fast/far the
actual performance would have been at age 25 -- 30 years. The rank is
simply the percent of the predicted world record performance for the
athletes actual age. The rank can be used to compare performances of
both men and women of any age in any event. This year, I am using the
most recent WAVA tables, so numbers differ slightly form previous
years for the same performance.
Obviously, this is on somewhat shaky ground statistically, but as long
as one does not push the tables to extremes in age or performance, the
system seems to work fairly well. Whether a 20.5 second 100 meters by
a 101 year old man is really a better performance than Asafa Powell's
world record, I cannot say: how many 101 year olds have ever run 100
meters?
Anyway, masters athletes can have fun with it! The calculator is
available at:

People who rank above 80% usually compete well in National-level
masters meets.
